Good Old Days
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 24th January 2005 21:37:02 (GMT +0530)Once a month there is this workshop that I have to conduct on Internet & Email. There will be about 15 students average per month. Most of these students haven't even seen a website which is a very ordinary thing in Sri Lanka. I feel so great about conducting these workshops coz I feel I'm doing the world of good to all those student as I'm leading them the way to the world of Internet. Its more of a public awareness thing rather than just a workshop.
I'm very much used to browsing on 512 KB/sec ADSL connection. But on the workshop I have to demonstrate them using a 56 KB/sec Dial-Up Connection. It reminds me the good old days. Where I used to wait till 22:00 to go online as after 22:00 it will be discount rate on phone calls. Also will be waiting long hours till the download completes. I still remember the day I got ADSL to my place. A 10MB file whick took more than 30 minutes to download on Dial-Up, took only 5 minutes to download on ADSL. Its so great to feel that we have all the latest technologies available specially when we are living in a small country like Sri Lanka.

What a victory!!!
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 17th January 2005 20:55:10 (GMT +0530)Just now Matthew Hoggard got Dale Steyn out caught behind by Jones to give a much needed victory for England. Matthew Hoggard finished his spell with a career best of 7 for 61.
It was a gamble when Michael Vaughan declared when England were on 411/8 in the first innings after all the incidents that took place when umpires called off the second days play for bad light but Vaughan felt otherwise. Andrew Strauss lead by scoring 147 while Robert Key and Michael Vaughan contributed with 83 and 82 respectively. In reply South Africa scored 419 all out in their fisrt innings. Herchelle Gibbs played the lone hand by scoring 161 and got some support from Mark Boucher. England on the second Innings declared at 332 for 9 on the morning of the 5th day. Marcus Trescothick thrashed the South African pace attack, ended up scoring 180. South Africa chasing an unlickely target of 325 for victory lost wickets at regular intervals. The demolisher being Matthew Hoggard who won the Man of the Match award for his 7 wickets in the second innings. He also got 5 wickets in the first.

Fast & Furious
Posted by Nazly on Sunday, 16th January 2005 22:02:49 (GMT +0530)Good thing that I'm not playing international cricket. Most fast bowlers have this aggression when they are bowling at their best. I was at my best today after a long time. I was hitting the deck hard maintaining a perfect line and length. Got couple of deliveries to hit the furniture behind the batsman. The best part came when I hit the stump when I picked up the ball on my bowling follow through and hit the wicket on the bowlers end to runout the striker who tried to sneak in a single. In the next over there was a simlar instance where the batsman tried to sneak a single but this time I hit the batsmans end to runout the non-striker. But then came the problem. Its a tough decision for the naked eye and would have definielty been a call for third umpire. I knew he was out. But the squareleg umpire thought otherwise. This is where the agression came into play. I kicked out the two stumps that were standing on the ground and started screaming.. THAT WAS OUT!!!
The sqareleg umpire admiited anyway that it was out.. and the game went on which my team lost anyway. As I said if it was International Cricket I would have been fined entire match fee and would have been banned for atleast two matches

Tsunami Appeal Cricket Match
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 10th January 2005 20:05:41 (GMT +0530)It was great to see all the cricketers joining hands to play for a cause. World Cricket Tsunami Appeal 1st One-Day International was played today at the MCG, Australia between ACC Asian XI and ICC World XI. The Asian XI was lead by Indian Captain Saurav Ganguly while the ICC XI was lead by Aussie captain Ricky Ponting.
ICC XI won this match with ease. Captain Ricky Ponting put up a great show by scoring 115 in 102 balls with 8 fours 3 sixes. Kiwi all rounder Chris Cairns too scored some quick runs by firing 69 runs in 47 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Muttiah Muralitharan picked up 3 wickets after his long return to cricket while Kumar Sangakkara involving in 5 dismissals (3 stumpings and 2 catches). In Reply runs started flowing off the bats of Sanath Jayasuriya and Virendar Shewag though they lost wickets at regular intervals. The only impressive innnigns came off from the man who won the ICC Cricketer of the Year award, Rahul Dravid. He scored 75 runs off 71 balls. Danniel Vettori captured 3 wickets. The Man of the Match Award went to Ricky Ponting for his run show with the bat.
At the end of the day it didn't matter who won this match. The main intension was to collect aid to rebuild Tsunami effected countries specially Sri Lanka. And the game has collected a lot of funds that is needed for this cause.

Day 1 of 2005 has been great..
Posted by Nazly on Saturday, 1st January 2005 21:41:38 (GMT +0530)After all the tragedy in SL, the year 2005 blossomed with leaving a lot of memories in our hearts of 2004. Day 1 of 2005 has been so far so good for me
My friend Irshad Hussein Mubarak's nikkah(Islamic term for marriage) today at the mosque. Felt really great as a friend to see him getting into marriage life. My gosh didn't he have big grin on his face
In the evening played couple of cricket matches and had a decent peformace with both bat and ball. Was maintaining a decent line and length while bowling. Felt great to bowl on a tight line.
Came home had a bath and switched on my machine.. Checked my emails.. To see I got a mail with a New Year Greeting Card from a good old friend of mine whom I have lost contacts with. The mail made my day and its great to realize the fact that I'm not forgetten.

Dawn of 2005
Posted by Nazly on Saturday, 1st January 2005 20:38:26 (GMT +0530)Tsunamis hit Sri Lanka on the 26th December 2004 killing more than 28000 people. It affected all Sri Lankan hearts as for the last few days everyone were not at their best. Most of them were really busy in helping the survivors, collecting funds and providing aids. The nation was mourning for five days in respect of the people who lost their lives.
The affect was clearly displayed on the 31st night. In the past, when the clock strickes 00:00:00 fireworks and crackers will start rocking the nation. But yesterday it was the opposite. I didn't even hear a single cracker blowing up. The sight we saw was people lighting up oil lamps in respect of the people who lost their lives. Its was a pleasant sight to see that the entire nation has got together at this moment.
Year 2004 has left us a lot of happy and sad memories in our hearts.. Hopefully 2005 will bring peace and happiness to all of us.. Wish you a Happy New Year!!!
