Must win

Posted by Nazly on Tuesday, 29th November 2005 17:59:17 (GMT +0530)

The third Test between England and Pakistan kicked off today which is a must win for England to draw this Test Series. First time in the series England batting first were going well with openers Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan put up a 101 runs partnership. It was nice to see Vaughan opening the innings and scoring a half-century in the absence of Andrew Strauss who flew home coz of the birth of his first child. Vaughan fell when he was on 58 and from then onwards England lost wickets quite regulary. England managed to score 248 for the loss of six wickets at the end of the day as Paul Collingwood, the replacement for Staruss held one end and was not out on 71. Liam Plunkett, the Yorkshire fast bowler makes his debut as Ashley Giles flew back home for a hip surgery. Plunkett has been picked ahead of James Anderson as Fletcher preffered four pace attack for this particular test.

England have to get a good grip of this game unlike how they missed the opportunity they had today after the opening stand. It will all depend on how they approach the game tomorrow.

I just passed 1000KMs with my new bike. Its a cool feeling as this is the first time I have passed that kinda distance on a bike. This is my first 125 CC bike though I used to ride bikes which are less than 90CC couple of years back. Its all new experience riding a 125CC hitting the roads and getting good grip of it. :D[BigGrin]

Finding some touch

Posted by Nazly on Sunday, 27th November 2005 21:04:40 (GMT +0530)

How many times we have heard when commentators say that the batsman is seeing the cricket ball like a football when a batsman is batting at his best and thrashing the ball all around the park. And how many of us have felt it. I just experienced it yesterday while playing and today too finding some form after a long time. Its a true fact, once you settle in and get the touch of it no matter where the bowler bowls them or how good the delivery is, you can hit it with confidence. But at the same time you will have bad days as well. You just feel you can't hit them, no matter how bad they bowl. Thats how cricket is. Its a matter of playing yourslef in a playing with confidence.

Its good as finiding some form gives a real confidence boost. I was able to bowl well even with the slight pain in my right ankle. I would have loved if I could expand my Cricket fever though with my love towards programming and with my lifestyle I just prefer to play Cricket just as a hobby [Wink]

Lara on top of the World

Posted by Nazly on Saturday, 26th November 2005 20:47:33 (GMT +0530)

Brian Lara, the elegant left hander has passed Allan Border's career test runs and is now top in the list with 11187 runs averaging 54.04. Allan Border was the top run getter previously with 11174 averaging 50.56. Lara went passed Border during his 226 in the 2nd Test played currently against West Indies and Australia.

Lara had a poor form and was struggling to get amongst runs. He is such a player and has this habbit when the whole world feels that Lara has lost his form, he comes out with a bang. This innings of 226 is a good example. I remember last time when England had beaten West Indies 3-0 and had another test to win for a series whitewash. Lara was not a threat for England during the three Test matches they won. England were given real treatment on the fourth Test as Lara came up with a Bang scoring 400, the highest total in an innings in Tests and that Test ended in a draw.

Wonder how many records will be broken by Lara and he is such an elegant player to watch.

Test of Drama ends in a Draw

Posted by Nazly on Thursday, 24th November 2005 21:26:34 (GMT +0530)

The second test between Pakistan and England ended in a draw after fine perfomances by both teams and the incidents that took place. Batting first Pakistan got to 462 with Inzamam scoring a 109 and got out to a controversial runout decision while Afridi fired with a quick 92 in 85 balls hitting 6 sixes and 6 fours. When Inzamam was on 109 Harmison picked the ball on his follow through and shied at the stumps and Inzi took evasive action to avoid injury, but umpired ruled Inzi out. England in reply got to 446. Ian Bell scored 115 with lot of patient while Pieterson scored a quick fire hundred offering great support to Bell. The England tail got some valuable runs specially the partnership between Udal and Harmison made sure that England were just 16 runs short of Pakistan's first innings total. During the England Innings Shahid Afridi was found guilty for scuffing the pitch and was banned for one Test and two ODIs by the match refree Roshan Mahanama. England were really fired up in their bowling when Pakistan started their 2nd Innings and Pakistan were 6 down at the end of 4th days play. But Inzamam stuck to his task got to his second century of the match and declared the innings at 268 for 9 giving a target of 285 to win for England with two sessions remaining. But England soon found themselves in a position of losing the Test when wickets tumble. Pieterson and Flintoff played a vital partnership in the middle to hold Pakistani attack. When bad light stopped play England were 6 down with 164 on the board.

England's consecutive series win has ended as thier hopes of a series win here in Pakistan has come to an end. England will be focusing now on the third Test for a must win to avoid the series defeat.

What a pain..

Posted by Nazly on Thursday, 24th November 2005 10:00:01 (GMT +0530)

Its such a pain to travel these days after the Presdiential Elections as most of the roads are blocked for security reasons. The drive to my office is a street that leads to the Parliament which will be blocked constantly when Ministers and VIPs are heading towards it. Due to this the adjoining streets are full of traffic and people suffer a lot wasting a lot of time. I still remember the amount of time I wasted on the road during the election campaigns. A highway was blocked and I was stuck for nearly three hours as an election campaign took place.

Security measures should be taken to protect most valuable leaders of our country and I accept that. But more people are suffering in their day to day activities coz of that. I think more thought has to be put it in to organize this in a nice manner.

Atlast some sunshine

Posted by Nazly on Wednesday, 23rd November 2005 14:58:37 (GMT +0530)

Atlast the sun is shining in Colombo. Most parts of Colombo were flooded due to the heavy rain during the couple of days. Water level was above the bridge near our house and roads were still flooded when I came from home this morning though it was not raining. Nice to see the sun out at the moment. Wonder whether it will start pouring again..

Pakistan edge over England

Posted by Nazly on Wednesday, 16th November 2005 22:05:05 (GMT +0530)

After the Ashes victory England had to face a tough battle against Pakistan in hot conditions. England started off the series with very poor batting performance during their practice matches though they won the first practice game. The poor batting continued in the second practice game but this time England lost. England were not too worried as they were confident that they can perform better when they get on to the center stage. England had to miss their successful captain Michael Vaughan as he injured his knee during the second warm up game. Trescothick was named the captain for the first Test.

As expected the first test played at Multan started off with Pakistan batting first. England bowlers were spot on and managed to restrict Pakistan for 274 with Salman Butt leading the way scoring 74. Trescothick lead the way for England scoring a magnificent 193 with Ian Bell offering great support with 71. England reached 418 in the first Innings. In the second innings Pakistan put on 341, again Salman Butt leading the way with a superb 122. The Pakistan captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq scored valuable a 72. Pakistan were heading for a big score when this pair were batting but Hoggard and Flintoff made sure to apply brakes at the right time to make sure England had to chase 198 for victory. Trescothick fell early for 5 runs on the end of the fourth day. At 64 for 1 England were looking well settled for a victory with Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell cruising along. Danish Kaneria struck with the wicket of Ian Bell which started the batting collapse. 3 wickets fell within the span of 2 overs. Though Geraint Jones and Shaun Udal put up a valuable 49 run partnership the fearsome deliveries by Shoaib Akthar were too good for England as they were 22 runs short, giving a very much deserved victory for Pakistan.

England are missing their captain Michael Vaughan very much and has to strengthen their batting much more. They have to get their act right before the second Test which begins on the 20th at Faisalabad.

Guru G goes online

Posted by Nazly on Monday, 14th November 2005 22:33:53 (GMT +0530)

Atlast my master is online @ www.fiqri.net. You can read his blog here. Fiqri AKA TrackZeroBad is the one who guided me all the way to the WWW. Why he didn't have his own site is still a mystery though I think he has come over that stage now. He was busy with working on massive projects might be the reason. Good luck sir!!! [Wink]

Back in Action

Posted by Nazly on Tuesday, 8th November 2005 22:36:21 (GMT +0530)

It has been quite a while since I posted on my blog. The fasting days are finally over and it was a less productive month considering the amount of work done. The days passed in the month of Ramazan very quickly and had a good 4-5 days holiday during the Ramazan Festival in Kandy with my family. Came to Colombo today morning. Now back to normal ways and trying to speed things up.
