The people in Sri Lanka were given warnings within an hour after the earthquake struck though it was around midnight. People living around coastline were cautioned to stay away. They moved to safe places without a delay. Reports said it will be around 3AM in the morning for Tsunami to hit the isle but didn't happen as expected.

Its a good thing to know that the warning systems are in place in Sri Lanka.

25th B'Day an unforgettable one!!!

Posted by Nazly on Friday, 18th March 2005 22:01:03 (GMT +0530)

What a day today... It had everything in it. I'm 25 today and it was a day to remember. It all started when I got the first call to wish me a happy B'Day when I was about to goto sleep last night though the clock said its 00:15 which means its the 18th. When I woke up in the morning few SMS messages started flowing. When I was checking my mailbox the greeting cards started to flow as well. I feel really great that I have so many friends and really happy that all of them didn't forget to wish me.

The best part was the surprises I got at the office. I never expected that they will throw a party today. It was pure fun.. It was the first time ever that someone has surprised me on my birthday as I normally don't celebrate that much.

My relatives in Kandy too didn't forget to wish me specially my cousin sister who has always been there for me.

AJAX framework

Posted by Nazly on Monday, 14th March 2005 21:12:28 (GMT +0530)

Today when I rushed into office I just got this news that we have to do some research on the AJAX framework, also known as XMLHTTPRequest or remote scripting which allows webpages to get information from a remote server without performing a browser refresh. It speeds up the browsing time as well as its more comfortable working with the AJAX application.

AJAX is the technique behind GMAIL. I was really keen on knowing the technique behind it , though something kept me away from doing any further research on it. And of course this is a good start.

Sajax is an open source tool to make programming websites using the Ajax framework. Hopefully you will find this tool very useful as well.

A bath after getting hit..

Posted by Nazly on Sunday, 6th March 2005 19:19:18 (GMT +0530)

I have been used to play cricket with my friends on weekend evenings. For about two weeks I didn't get an oppotunity to play. Yesterday being a Saturday, I warmed up my self and rushed to get some form back. But found it bit difficult to get the rythm going as I was smashed all around the park.

Then came the rain. There was huge cloud cover while we were playing though started pouring down on us in no time. We quickly ran for cover though the rain was too hard for us to handle as we all had a good bath though we couldn't find a piece of soap :D[BigGrin]

We couldn't get a game today as it rained in the evening as well, a bit of a relief after the hot weather conditions we had for the last couple of weeks.

Spiderman 2 Quotes

Posted by Nazly on Saturday, 5th March 2005 10:26:00 (GMT +0530)

Here are few quotes from the movie Spiderman 2 which I really like. I know its bit old but its cool [Wink]

Peter Parker: [narrating] She looks at me everyday. Mary Jane Watson. Oh boy! If she only knew how I felt about her. But she can never know. I made a choice once to live a life of responsibility. A life she can never be a part of. Who am I? I'm Spider-Man, given a job to do. And I'm Peter Parker, and I too have a job.

Peter Parker: [speaks to MJ through a dead phone line] I wanna tell you the truth... here it is: I'm Spider-Man. Weird, huh? Now you know why I can't be with you. If my enemies found out about you... if you got hurt, I could never forgive myself. I wish I could tell you how I feel about you...

Henry Jackson: Hi, Peter!
Peter Parker: Hey, Henry! You've grown tall.
May Parker: You'll never guess who he wants to be... Spider-Man!
Peter Parker: Why?
May Parker: He knows a hero when he sees one. Too few characters out there, flying around like that, saving old girls like me. And Lord knows, kids like Henry need a hero. Courageous, self-sacrificing people. Setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams.

Dr. Otto Octavius: Before we start, did anyone lose a bunch of twenties rolled up in a rubber band? Because we found the rubber band.
[slight laugh]
Dr. Otto Octavius: It's a terrible joke... But thank you for coming.

Dr. Davis: You say you can't sleep. Heart break? Bad Dreams?
Peter Parker: There is one dream where in my dream, I'm Spider-Man. But I'm loosing my powers. I'm climbing a wall but I keep falling.
Dr. Davis: Oh. So you're Spider-Man...
Peter Parker: [interrupts Dr. Davis] In my dream... Actually, it's not even my dream, it's a friend of mine's dream.
Dr. Davis: Oh. Somebody else's dream. What about this friend? Why does he climb these walls? What does he think of himself?
Peter Parker: That's the problem, he doesn't know what to think.
Dr. Davis: Kind of makes you mad not to know who you are? Your soul disappears, nothing is bad as uncertainty. Listen, maybe you're not supposed to be Spider-Man climbing those walls? That's why you keep falling. You'll always have a choice Peter.
Peter Parker: [whispers] I have a choice.

Ben Parker: Of all the times we talked of honesty, fairness, justice. A lot of those times I counted on you to have the courage, to take those dreams out into the world.
Spider-Man: I can't live your dreams anymore. I want a life of my own.
Ben Parker: You've been given a gift Peter, with great power, comes great responsibility.
[gives his hand to Peter]
Ben Parker: Take my hand son.
Spider-Man: [backs away] No Uncle Ben. I'm just Peter Parker. I'm Spider-Man no more. No more...

J. Jonah Jameson: [Spider-Man's costume is found] I'll give you 50 bucks for it.
Garbage Man: Fifty? I can get much more on eBay.
J. Jonah Jameson: Fine,
[talking to receptionist]
J. Jonah Jameson: Give this man $100 and a bar of soap.

Amazed Kid: [after two kids see Peter use his "spider" reflexes] How'd you do that?
Spider-Man: Uh... Work out... Plenty of rest... You know, eat your green vegetables...
Amazed Kid: That's what my mom is always saying, I just actually never believed her.
