More updates
Posted by Nazly on Tuesday, 30th August 2005 00:28:33 (GMT +0530)Lately I have been doing some changes on my blog here and there when I get some time off. U might have spotted the layout change
I have a section called My Scripts where I have added all the stuff I have done in the recent past. I did have few listed earlier though I didn't have any description about them. So I have added them now. I also added a sub section called PHP Custom Functions under My Scripts which I will be adding those tiny functions I have written for certain tasks. I will try to add as much as I can during the time off I get.

As close as it can get
Posted by Nazly on Sunday, 28th August 2005 23:03:33 (GMT +0530)The thrilling Ashes drama continued as the 4th Test match too went down to the wire as England go one up (2-1) in the series beating Australia by 3 wickets at Trent Bridge. England requiring 129 for victory were threatned by the Spin and Pace combination of Warne and Lee. They came really close to getting 7 English wickets though Hoggard and Giles made sure they cross over the finish line in style.
England scored 477 in their first innings. Flintoff scored 102 while Geraint Jones scored 85. In reply Aussies only managed to get 218 and were forced to followon. Simon Jones got 5 wickets and Hoggard got 3 wickets. Aussies in reply fought very hard to avoid the innings defeat and were leading by 129 runs when they were bowled out for 387 in their second innings.
This is a much needed victory for England as they get closer to bring back the Ashes home. 5th Test starts on the 8th of September at the Oval which will be a crucial one for both teams.
England women regained the Ashes yesterday when they beat the Aussie women by 6 wickets in the second test of the 2 match series. First test ended in a draw so the English women won the series 1-0

Run feast
Posted by Nazly on Thursday, 25th August 2005 01:02:08 (GMT +0530)The Kiwis came closer to rewrite the record books when they scored a massive 397 for 5 in just 44 overs against Zimbabwe, the second highest total in a One-day International.
398, the highest score ever was scored by Sri Lanka against Kenya during the 1996 World Cup. But it would have been easily broken if the Kiwis got the full 50 overs. The innings was reduced to 44 overs after the delayed start coz of a damp pitch. Lou Vincent scored 172 in just 120 balls (4x16, 6x9) while skipper Fleming scored 93 from 87 balls.

Google Earth
Posted by Nazly on Thursday, 25th August 2005 00:51:50 (GMT +0530)Today I downloaded and installed Google Earth and I should say I was stunned with this app. I'm sure massive amount of work has been put it to develop such a thing. Simply we can type an address and zoom in to that location + the satellite images can be rotated and tilted for 3D view of terrains and buildings. This is really awesome..

Its quite amazing to see the whole bunch of creators and drivers of the LAMP are hitting Sri Lanka. Specially Rasmus Lerdorf and David Axmark.

PHP 6.0
Posted by Nazly on Tuesday, 16th August 2005 21:25:42 (GMT +0530)There are few interesting talk going about PHP 6.0. The major change in this release will be the Unicode support.
In the email that Rasmus sent to the PHP internals he has outlined few things about spring cleaning and getting rid of some features in PHP.
Among that removing register_globals completely and removing magic_quotes_* is quite a good thing though will have major effect on a lot of applications. Specially lot of hosting companies will face serious issue when it comes to removing register_globals as most applications they use on the register_globals. But all these changes need to be done at some stage and it will be our duty to be prepared when the time comes to migrate.

Down to the wire
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 15th August 2005 23:25:03 (GMT +0530)The 3rd Test Match of the Ashes series went down to the wire and is one of the thrilling Test Matches in the recent past. It had everything in it. England dominated most of it though Aussies fought well to save this Test Match.
Day one was dominated by England and they scored 444 in their first innings. England captain Micheal Vaughan got back in form scoring 166, his top score this season. Aussies in reply were 186 for 6 at one stage, though Shane Warne put a real fight with Jason Gillespie to make sure they avoided the follow one. Aussies managed to score 302 in their first innings. Simon Jones got 6 for 53.
In reply England piled on the runs as Andrew Staruss(106) and Ian Bell(65) got England to 280 for 6 when Vaughan decided to declare as England had a lead of 422.
In reply Ponting was fighting alone while his mates offered some support though none of them really sticked as England bowlers put brakes at right times. Ponting got out atlast when he was on 156 as the 9th wicket, giving England the hope of winning this Test Match. Though McGrath and Lee batted the rest of the balls cautiously to draw this Test Match as the Ashes Series is still level at 1-1.

Form Generator Class
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 15th August 2005 20:48:04 (GMT +0530)I wrote a basic class in PHP that will handle all the form processes.
This class can
1) Generate all types of elements of a form and assign default values to it. Almost all attributes of the elements can be set. (Hope I haven't missed any)
2) Validation function can be assigned to an element. Additional parameters can also be passed if required. I have written few common validations like checking to see if the element value is not empty, validating an email address etc.. Custom functions can be added if required.
3) After setting up all the elements you will be good to go. The class will handle all the process for you. The class will return the posted values if all validations were successful unless will return the custom errors.
Why don't you guys check on it and give me your feedback on it.

Posted by Nazly on Friday, 12th August 2005 07:15:03 (GMT +0530)The Aussie Spin King Shane Warne became the first man in the history to get 600 wickets in Test Cricket when he dismissed Marcus Trescothick in the 3rd Test of the Ashes Series against England at Old Trafford. He achieved this target in his 126th Test.

Lions roar
Posted by Nazly on Tuesday, 9th August 2005 22:22:19 (GMT +0530)The Lankan lions won the final of the Indian OIL Cup beating India by 18 runs. Sri Lankans got 281 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Jayawardene top scored with 83 while Arnold and Jayasuriya offered great support. Vass fired 18 off 9 balls at the end of the innings. Sanath Jayasuriya reached his 10000 run mark in oneday cricket during his knock of 67. He is the 4th batsman and the 1st Sri Lankan to achieve this milestone.
In reply India started off quite well. Shewag fired a quick 48 in just 22 balls though Shewag draged one to his stumps, thanks to the tidy bowling of Vass. Dravid too held his nerve, but excellent fielding by Dilshan ran him out for 69. Tight bowling by Vass and Muralitharan restricted India to 263 for 9 in their 50 overs giving Sri Lanka the important victory.

Series level after the thriller
Posted by Nazly on Sunday, 7th August 2005 18:26:43 (GMT +0530)England won the second test match of the Ashes after the thrilling 2 run victory over Australia. When the day ended yesterday Aussies were struggling at 175 for 8 needing 107 for victory. Today morning Warne and Lee got off to a flying start getting closer to the winning target. But Flintoff and Harmison resisted at right time to make sure to get them before they got there. Flintoff's performance has been exceptional in this test match earned him the man of the match.
This is a much needed victory for England to set the target for the Ashes but have to work hard to make sure that they dominate the Aussies throughout the series.

Back in Business
Posted by Nazly on Friday, 5th August 2005 22:24:56 (GMT +0530)I'm Blogging after a long time. I have been away from Colombo for sometime. Now I'm in the process of getting back to my daily routine. I was away for about 3 weeks. A lot has happened during this period.
Aussies have beaten the Englishmen in the first test of the Ashes comprehensively. The second test begun yesterday and England are off to a flying start on the first day. Lets wait and see whether they can pull this one to get closer to winning the Ashes.
I have started developing a small class that will handle all the form processing handled by PHP. I will post it when its ready for use
