More hardware
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 19th June 2006 21:14:29 (GMT +0530)Last couple of weeks was really tough considering the amount of work I had as almost each day was a deadline. It added a lot of pressure on me as I have problems with migraine and headache. Managed to sort out couple of pending work by Thursday and took the the weekend off. Being away from the computer for 3 days helped a great deal in refreshing myself and gained a lot of energy when I hit to work today morning.
I got myself a notebook, an 'IBM Thinkpad' to sort out the problems I have when it comes to managing my data. Things are much organized now. Its running Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) and I'm really impressed. Wireless works pretty well as I'm using the best out of the wireless network at our office.

Some true facts..
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 5th June 2006 21:38:00 (GMT +0530)This is one of the forward emails I got and it was really interesting. Thought of sharing...
YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2006 when...
1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the Screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60 years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.
AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Got Cracked...
Posted by Nazly on Monday, 5th June 2006 21:26:59 (GMT +0530)I was forced to avoid using my compy and missed a great event due to falling ill over last weekend. On Friday I got migraine and the headache continued the next couple of days. This was the first hit as it was two years back where I had a similar problem. I missed the Dapper Release Party as I didn't have time to recover as the pain was such. Couple of days latenight work last week might have triggered the migraine. Trying to get some rest but being away from the screen is the hardest part.

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) Released
Posted by Nazly on Thursday, 1st June 2006 18:02:12 (GMT +0530)Ubuntu 6.06 LTS has been released right on time with the code name 'Dapper Drake'. Read the Release Notes to go through the improvements on Dapper Drake. Its something I have been waiting for since I started using Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) on my desktop few months back. Didn't get a time off to upgrade when it was on BETA stage as I was bit stuck with my work. No excuses now. I'll keep posted
In the meantime there are Dapper Release Parties happening all over the world and there is one Dapper Release Party here in Sri Lanka as well. Cool ha?
