Quick trip to Kandy and back

It has been a long time since I got into the mode of traveling a bit far for the sake of looking around. I made sure I took my camera with me. I’m not really into photography, but my point-and-shoot camera does capture the moments I would like to share with others. It was just a quick round trip to Kandy. Went to Pinnawala on the way, lunch in Kandy, visited few relatives, stayed the night at my dad’s hometown and a quick run back to Colombo sums up the trip.

The main intention of this post is to share the photos I took during the ride. Most of the photos were taken at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It always amazes me how beautiful this country is. I used to travel a lot those days. But lately I haven’t. There are lot of places that I still have in mind to visit but only if time permits.

The New Year has dawn and had a tough time going through all the text messages and trying to reply to them. But I didn't manage to reply to them all but picked the message above to publish here which was bit different from the standard way of wishing. So a Happy New Year to you all. Let the dawning year bring you Peace and Prosperity.

I just can't imagine how the last year flew away leaving a lot of good memories, a year that brought lot of new things into my life. I started 2008 by getting married, which was a 180° turn in my life. My life style changed a lot after that but I managed to keep my geekhood alive. If you didn't see my blog being updated much, now you know why. But I still managed to post in between my busy work schedule. The last few months was more a restructuring period of my life both work and personal, so that's the reason why my last post it dated back to September. This year I vow that I will do my level best to keep the blog alive with loads of information in time to come.

The tough decision came somewhere in the middle of last year when I had to quit my previous workplace and take up a new challenge. It was a tough decision but I took it. I was at Cenango for almost four years and I do miss all the colleagues I used to work with and the great moments at Cenango. Thanks to all the guys who supported me throughout specially during the tough times and made me what I'm now.

Switching from a two wheel ride to a four wheel drive was the best thing that could happen to me at the end of the year for me. I don't want to erase my past memories I had with my hoodless ride as I used to call it, specially the days I used to get wet like nothing by the time I get home. It served me well for more than three years and still serving for short rides since I have no plans of selling it.

So all and all it has been a great last year and ready to face the challenges that are awaiting this year. I wish you all the very best in what ever you do.

Midnight chaos

I was almost in deep sleep last night when I heard this sudden noise that woke me up. I felt like it was thundering so I kinda got up and sat half asleep and thats when I heard the sound of a plane. It clicked to me immediately that what I heard was not a thunder but an explosion so I rushed towards the front door. When I opened the door I saw fire been hit towards the sky. The electricity was cut off as well. It was pitch black and I heard people were shouting all around. It was not revealed as of what could have happened and rumors were spreading across. It was total chaos at that time but in about 10-15 mins the firing towards the sky stopped. It was one hell of an experience in that time of the night.

Bowling at its best

I used to go for bowling with my colleagues and today was a remarkable day coz I scored 178, an all time record amongst our colleagues where 150 being the previous record which was held by my buddy Gihan. I scored 4 first strikes and three second strikes. My previous best was 146, so feel really great to be on top. I could have easily passed 200 if I converted my last shot to a strike. No worries anyway..

Today I realized that it has been a long time since I posted on my blog when my buddy Charith asked why I didn't post anything on my blog. What can I say? Things have been a bit on the slower side but I really can't give a valid reason. Too much work? Lazy to make a blog post? Nothing happening? might be the questions you might ask me but a mixture of these questions are actually the answers.

I was down with continuous migraine headaches last month. I consulted a neurologist whom I did consult when I had similar headaches couple of years back. So I was more on the recovery phase and things are better now. I did miss few weeks of playing cricket but after that I got back into playing mode. Then got injured my leg while running between wickets. ahhh.. Too many things to worry about. I can walk but when I try to run I get the pain. Should look into it.

A lot has been happening around the Cricket world. Couldn't get my blog updated with Cricket updates. Specially when the Englishmen beat the Aussies to win the Commonwealth Bank Series. The World Cup is around the corner. Guess who will win?

Got a chance to go to Riverston this weekend with my colleagues. It was really fun but was raining and a lot of mist there on Sunday. So changed the plan a bit and went to Sigiriya. It was a good break after a while. Hopefully I will keep things posted

Atlast I'm making the first post of this month. I was not completely away from my compy but things were on the slower side during the month of fasting. I really didn't get that much of a time off from my work schedule coz I tend to sleep more during those days. Got few days off from work during the festival and spent the days without a compy in Kandy. It was really refreshing to get such a break. Anyway back in business from today. Will keep posted about whats going around.

White Water Rafting

Yesterday I went to Kithulgala with my collegues and it was one of the coolest experiences in my life. This is the first time I have been to Kithulgala and was hoping to have some serious fun. We were guided by Priyantha of Ceylon Adventure Sports. Priyantha is a good friend of my collegue. Though I have heard of him, yesterday only I met him. First we went jungle tracking. The places within the jungle were really hard to believe. We came across a waterfall where we all bathed. The whole course took us about 3 hours to complete. By the time when we came back we were really hungry so we had a good lunch. Then in the evening came the real fun, White Water Rafting. This is why we all went to Kithulgala. We were geared up with life jackets and helmets. Priyantha instructed how we should row when he commands. Then we started the course. On our course there were 5 rapids we had to cross. We took the challenge and when we hit the thrid one Priyantha intentionally got the boat closer to the rock and flipped it up side down. Gosh we were all in the water trying to gather ourselves. Then we got together and flipped the boat and got inside. We successfully went passed the other rapids. After we passed all the rapids then came the other excercise. Jump out of the boat said Priyantha. I was like and then jumped. We had to swim from there to the camp site. It was a long swim but was bit difficult with the life jackets for me. But can't take it off either. Its not a Swimming Pool. After I got to the camp site Priyantha said its 40Ft deep where he told us to jump . It was a good team building excersie all and all. Had some great fun. Thanks to Priyantha for all the excitement and his crew (couldn't get their names) including our friend Nilantha. A day is not enough for such a trip but had to come back to Colombo.

I have added the CAPTCHA on my blog when posting comments to avoid SPAM comments. CAPTCHA stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart" which is used in Web based applications to only allow human beings to submit data. Though I was aware of CAPTCHA it was Christian Wenz's tutorial session on "Web Application Security Bootcamp" during the ApacheCon Asia 2006 that influenced me to add this feature on my blog. So when you are posting comments you just need to enter the verification code you see in the image.

Driving Licence at last

Atlast I got my driving licence yesterday after one year since the day I passed the trial test. I was riding my motorbike with the temporary licence which I had to extend the validity period a couple of times coz its valid for only 6 months. I'm glad that I atleast got it by now otherwise I have to extend it again end of this month.

Two years of blogging..

It has been exactly two years since I started to blog here. I first started to blog @ Codewalkers.com but the blogs there had to be taken off for some reason. Then I started my own blog and prefered coding the blog system on my own as a hobby project. I slowly added features to it and made sure to keep it very easy to use from my end. I also made sure to keep the look and feel very simple as well.

It has been two years of fun blogging about things that interests me. Will try to keep my blog live as much as I can. Hopefully you all had a good time reading my posts and gained something out of it. Looking forward to your comments and suggestions to keep my blog up and running.
